A modern day concept to deal with modern day stress
Why do we so often feel overwhelmed, or that there’s not enough hours in the day? And how is it that one small and relatively insignificant thing can cause us to react in such a strong and negatively emotional way?
The first StressFree step is to develop a greater awareness around what pressure is, what stress is, and the differences between them, before exploring solutions. We aim to give clients ways in which to cope with existing pressures by either managing or re-framing them, and to give clients a range of techniques to use for in-the-moment stress.
The StressFree pressure gauge gives our clients their first chance to examine and think about how stressed they feel on a day-to-day basis, and the reasons why. We re-visit the pressure gauge throughout our introductory sessions. It’s a great way for clients to start the process of developing a greater self-awareness, and provokes very interesting discussion and feedback.
How does stress come about and what does it do to us, both mentally and physically? Through discussion, presentation and interactive tasks we look at why we struggle to cope with the multiple pressures of modern day society. At this point our clients regularly describe this as their first light-bulb moment in our full-day group sessions.
Meditation and mindfulness is a key aspect of StressFree. It’s scientifically proven that mindfulness – being in the present – improves focus, performance and relationships. Meditation is the most effective way to develop mindfulness. Our small guided meditations, which work in and around the workshops, tend to give clients a greater sense of focus at the same time as pulling them away from negative thinking.
Mental health has traditionally been a sensitive area of discussion. But over the last few years this has started to change, with more awareness around stress at a national level and the growing need to combat what has now been described as an epidemic. Last year in the UK there was a remarkable 24% increase in working days lost to stress, depression or anxiety.
We consider the environment in which to host StressFree as critical. Our workshops are technology-free. We pride ourselves on the hand-made quality of our presentation material, from our group discussion artwork to our take-away technique cards. By removing as many of the potential stimulus to stress as possible, we set a unique tone with our clients from the start of their StressFree experience.
Our Keynsham venue has a large open-plan upstairs space, which nicely comprises three separate zones; for workshops, meditations, informal discussions and separate one-to-one sessions (either private or through business). The house is detached, with great countryside views and is located in a peaceful, quiet location. Full day group sessions include a generous home-cooked, lunch.
At the same time we bring StressFree to the workplace, adapting to every different type of scenario. Our bespoke business packages cater for the individual needs of each client, whether that's improving focus, performance, relationships, resilience or the general wellbeing of staff. This can be through group sessions and one-to-ones.
Through a combination of unique factors, which includes very open and frank introductions from the both of us, we aim to create an environment that allows our clients to feel at ease in discussing a traditionally sensitive subject area. We give clients thinking time, focused conversation and the chance to reflect; vital elements of life that are being increasingly sacrificed in people’s hectic daily existence.
Sometimes, the simple realisation that clients are not alone in their battle against stress, and that, in fact, most of the people in the same room have similar experiences, allows them to open up much more than they had anticipated. This leaves clients feeling uplifted and ready to start the process of becoming more stress-free.
We look forward to working with you.
